Urban Heiltsuk Support Team

The Full Story

The Urban Heiltsuk Support Team provides support services to Heiltsuk citizens living away from our traditional homelands and in the Greater Vancouver area.

The support services include resource navigation and referrals, advocacy, family services for Heiltsuk children in care, and outreach services in downtown eastside of Vancouver. The service areas include education, employment, housing, wellness, addiction, justice, child and family services, and cultural and community connections.

Our team consists of one administrative assistant, one Heiltsuk family services advocate/designated band representative, two outreach workers, one resource coordinator, and one program manager.

Since September 2022 the Urban Heiltsuk Support Team has grown, the team increased from three fulltime staff and one part time team lead to six fulltime staff. The office has moved from North Vancouver to East Vancouver to be more accessible to the urban community.

The team has implemented case management practices and is making great efforts to connect with our urban community. All programs have ongoing case loads and support community members as requested within the outlined service areas.
